H Noble Warrum was todv nominated for postmaster of Salt Laho City by President Woodrow Wilson to succeed former Governor Arthur li. Thomas, whose term as postmaster fpired last Monday. Action 011 the appointment is expected b- tho senate early next week. The senators from Utah will offer no opposition to the confirmation of Mr. Warrum s nomination and it is thought that there will be no opposition from any source. Mr. Warrum is at present city re- . corder. He will probably tender his resignation immediately to take effect at the pleasure of the commiagiou, though it is probable that he will ask that the resignation be accepted with-in with-in a week or ten days. With the an-nouncoment an-nouncoment of Mr. Warrum 's appoint-ment appoint-ment a number of candidates to sue- JM cced him. as city recorder have become active in urging their candidacies. The appointment of Mr. Warrum as postmaster of Salt Lake ends au inter-esting inter-esting contest for the place that has occupied the attention of local Demo-erats Demo-erats for sevoral months. D. C. Dun-bar Dun-bar was the principal opponent of Mr. Warrum for tho place. Mr. Dunbar had the indorsement of tho Salt Lake county Democratic committee and scv-oral scv-oral Democrats of local and national prominence, including some of the members of the United States sonate. Indorsed Candidacy. Those who indorsed the candidacy of Mr. Warrum included National Com-mittccmau Com-mittccmau W. It. Wallace, Democratic Stato Chairman S. R. Thurman. Demo-cratic Demo-cratic Country Chairman T. F. Thomas, Mathonihah Thomas and T. D. Johnson, recently Democratic candidates for con-gress; con-gress; Frank K. Nebekor, former na-tional na-tional committeeman; the lato Judgo O. W. Powers and a number ,of other IH local Democrats of prominence. Unit-cd Unit-cd States Senators Thomas of Colorado, Kern and Shively of Indiana and "Vice IH President Marshall aro'said to havo boon activo in urging Mr, Warrum 's appointment. IJ If the confirmation of the appoint- ment is made within the next weak it fl will probably be another week before tho commission is received by Mr. War-rum War-rum and the bond approved. It is not probable that tho now postmaster will take offico beforo April 1. Former Gov- jl ernor Arthur L. Thomas, who has been tM postmaster of Salt Lake' City for more vM than sixteen years, completed his term of ofueu on last Monday, but will re- fM I main as postmaster until his successor qualifies for tho placo. At present tho salary of the postman- tcr of Salt Lake is $3900. On July 1, IH howovor, tho salary will be automati- IH cully increased to $5000 per year as tho business of the office has increased to an extent that will bring it into tho IH r $5000 class at tho beginning of tho ;! next fiscal year. Ho was the editor of tho jH I Logau Journal and subsequently of tho ' old Salt Lake Herald. Mr. Warrum jH ! practiced law for a time in Logan and ! was judgo of probate for Cache county. Ho was a membor of tho constitutional jH convention and of tho first state son-.ate son-.ate of Utah. For several years Mr. Warrum was jH general manager of tho Utah Mexican IH Rubber company and spent consider- jH ablo of hiB time in Moxico.
