Tlio interstate inter-state commerce commission today granted permission to t.ho Union Pacific, tho Ore-son Ore-son Short J!iie. Oregon Navigation - and Northern Pad flu JUillroad companies to establish for six months a freight rate of $3 50 per ton an shipments of soft coal from stations in Utah and Wyoming1 to Gem. Frisco. Blackbcar, Dorn, Mace. Burke. Wallace and Mullan. Idaho, and a rate of 53.70 por ton from the Utah and Wyoming stations to Kellogg. Ward ner, Osborne, Lake Guldi and Sampling Works, Tdaho, without observing- the long and short haul provision of the Interstate In-terstate commerce act during the bIx months period. Applications for relief from theso rates will bo heard and, If granted, the orders Issued will automatically automati-cally cancel thc rates granted. The reduction in rates on soft coal granted by tho intcrstato commerce commission com-mission is of great Importance to coal op-enitor.s op-enitor.s of this territory, as it allows them to compete with tho northern coal fields In the Coeur d'Alcne district. During the six months the rates arc in effect, hearings will be granted the railroad companies, in which thoy will be requested request-ed to show cause- for tho reduction or why rates to intermediate points, which arq now higher than the now rates to the points mentioned, shall not be lowered In proportion |
