Show McKiiiiiey's Resolution on Matter Mat-ter Referred o City's Chief Executive. QUESTION OF FINANCES MUST BE CONSIDERED P. J. Moran's Contract for the City Stables Approved by Council. After a prolonged dobato between various vari-ous members of the council, the resolution resolu-tion introduced by Councilman J. W. Mc-Kinney Mc-Kinney one week ago providing for the appointment of a committee of fifteen citizens to make arrangements for an appropriate ap-propriate safe and sane celebration of Independence day. July i, was referred to Mayor John S. Bransford. Councilman McKInney and 1 E. Hall urged the adoption adop-tion of the resolution, but other members of tho council were of the opinion that if such a committee is to be appointed, the matter-should bo left to the mayor. It was further pointed out that the city is not at present In such a financial condition con-dition that It would be possible to appropriate appro-priate a sum for the observance, and it was therefore argued that It should be further looked into before the committee Is appointed, as the committee may come back for appropriation. Tho council approved tho contract with Contractor P. .1. Moran for tho erection of the new city stables for 512,617. The contract with the Gillls Construction company for the curbing and guttering of Seventh East street between Tenth and Eleventh South streets, also was approved. ap-proved. Tho council laid over the contract for sidewalk extension No. 120, Including that territory in the northwestern portion of the. city north of Fourth North street to the city limits and west of Fourth West street to the Jordan river for ono week, that the elimination of certain blocks might bo further investigated. On motion of M. E. Mulvey, chairman of the special committee on the extension of the gravity sower outlet, the board of public works was authorized to advertise for bids for approximately 2000 feet of fluming. |
