Martin Sheridan Sheri-dan of the Irish-American Athlotlc club has started actlvo training for tho annual an-nual all-around championship of tho Amatour Athletic union, which Is scheduled sched-uled to take place at Chicago the latter lat-ter part of next month. Tho big champion was undecided for some tlmo as to whether he should enter en-ter tho event this year, but his friends prevailed upon him to mako the effort I nnd he has now made positive announcement announce-ment to tho effect that he will compete. : Sheridan says that he Is really ln no condition to enter the contest, as ho has not trained for months, so that he. will have his work cut out for him if he desires de-sires to again carry off the honors. If Joe Horner, the Michigan star, gols back from Europe in tlmo to compete In the event, Sheridan behoves that he will bo up against the best all-around athlete he has ever mot. Homer Is not only a star shotputtor and all-around weight man. but he Is also one of the best hurdlers and sprinters In the country. coun-try. Ellis II. Clark, the athlete from Boston, will also be on doclc and try to win tho cvont again. Clark won the event a couple of times In the '00s, and the only man who consistently defoated him was Shorldan. |
