Show WHAT LOOSENESS LEADS TO. From all accounts it appears that Elder Josiah E. Hickman is really in a deplorable condition of moral degeneration, degenera-tion, but that his pulchritudinous assurance assur-ance and impertinence will not permit him to recognize that fact. Commiserating Commiser-ating friends say of him that "ho has gono wronp in the head" ovor multi-matrimony multi-matrimony and sexual subjects. It is extreme!' unfortunate that ho is at the head of the Murdock academy at Beaver, Utah, an educational institution insti-tution supported by and under tho general gen-eral direction of tho Mormon church board of education. But the church officials of-ficials aro alono to blamo for thiB. fact, because thoy havo tho power to remove Hickman, btlt huvo rorusod to do so, although his immorality hns boon known to thorn for many yonrs. Thoy tu'lll permit per-mit him to occupy u position under tholi diroctiou wherein ho hnu ample opportunity oppor-tunity to poison tho minds of tho young pooplo, notwithstanding the fact that his most recent doctrinal hobby must have been known to them for somo time.. This late aberration has lod him to promote pro-mote the doctrine that no marriage cero-mony cero-mony whatovor is necessary botween men and women, but. that' tho passions alone should servo as a guide and a sanctification. It is impossible, for Tho Tribune to do anything Jbufc to merely suggest the nature of this teaching, because be-cause it is so disgusting and indicativo of tho lowest moral perversion as to render it altogether unfit for discussion Or exposition in tho public prints. Tho worst of the affair is that Elder Hickman Hick-man is carrying his teaching to such lengths as to endanger tho moral status of young men and young women of tho Beaver institution; and already thoro are complaints that girl students thero are subjected to indignities that would not be thought of, let alone tolerated, olsewhero. Elder Hickman .certainly should be looked after by the church leaders. It may bo possible, though, that his antics arc not rcpulsivo to the polygamous cult. |
