Show THE DRUG ORDINANCE. The Tribune wishes most heartily to commend the City Council for its action in passing the short ordinance introduced intro-duced and urged by Councilman Mulvey on Thursday evening. We refer now to tho ordinance forbidding the sale of morphine, cocaine, opium, and other "dope" drugs, except on prescription given by a regular practicing physicluu. There has been altogether too much looseness in this sort of trado heretofore. hereto-fore. It has been too easy for "dope fiends" to get the drugs wherewith they keep themselves stupefied and wreck thoir lives. It is well to put up barriers bar-riers against the dangerous traffic, and the Council did well in the interests of public morality in passing this ordinance ordi-nance promptly and in tho strictest form. We trust that it will bo enforced en-forced to the letter, and that any violator vio-lator of it will be punished with the severity that, his offenso merits, and that this severity will be nothing light. |
