Show I Official Sanction for This Afternoon's After-noon's Contest Gives It National Na-tional Importance. AUTOMOBILE SPEED TEST ATTRACTS MUCH INTEREST Course Up Brigham Street Has Been Placed in Excellent Condition. I The roadway to be used for (he Evening: Even-ing: Telegram's third annual automobile hill climb this afternoon, has been put In excclkmt condition by the street department, de-partment, under orders of Jake Raleigh, supervisor of streets, and all Is In readiness readi-ness for the races. Tho first cur Is scheduled sched-uled to start al 2 o'clock. There will bp nine events. Cups will be offered In seven of them, six trophies having been put up by the Telegram and one by Samuel Newhouse. There will be u:i extra test of speed for auto delivery wagons and one special exhibition trial. Chief of Police Sam Barlow has arranged ar-ranged to .have the course well policed nnd every precaution has been taken to avoid accidents. Official Sanction. The contest will be under the official sanction and rules of the American Automobile Auto-mobile association and, therefore, will have national Importance. The oars will get a running start at Tenth East street on Brigham. but the time will be caught as they reach Eleventh Elev-enth East street on the way up toward Fort Douglus. There are three ways of reaching the course by street cars,, the Third avenue lino, the First South street line and the East South Temple street line. There will lie n switchback on the last-named line, however, and cars will go cast only far as Tenth East sheet, just before, during, and just after the races. I.. J. Gilmer, Friday afternoon, entered an American machine In the class for cars costing flOOO and under, and also in the free-for-all class, bringing the total of entries up to forty-two.
