Show WATER FOR SCHOOLS BEFOHEJTjE BOARD Some of the Members Object to Pajing Bill Presented by City. Special to Tho Tribune. OGDEN. April 22. Tho right of the waterworks department o tho city to charge the city schools for water rentals was tho subject of a warm discussion at tho meeting of the board of education tonight. The matter came up on a bill for ?1600 presented by tho waterworks department against tho city schools for last year. The members of the board of education object to the bill on the ground that It is excessive, since only $150 had bcon paid as water rentals each year before the city bought tho waterworks system. City Attorney James Dcvlnc, Superintendent Charles H. Klrcher of the Ogden waterworks department and the members of the waterworks committee of the city council were present to discuss tho matter with tho board of education. Some members of the board flatly refused re-fused to pay the bill und the matter was left undecided until next Wednesdiiy night, when a spocial meeting will be hold. , , The estimate of the cost for maintaining maintain-ing the city schools for next year was fixed at $11S,500 and tho clerk of the board was Instructed io Inform the county assessor, county clerk and county coun-ty treasurer of the estimate so that when the tax levy is llxed the county officials can govern themselves accordingly. The treasurer reported that the second apportionment ap-portionment of the slate tax due Ogden Og-den city for Its public schools, amounting io ?11.3I2.5S. had been received from Slate Superintendent A. C. Nelson. The-receipt The-receipt of $6232.03 from rentals on state land was also acknowledged. |
