Show i OXIES WIN IN HMTEST Negroes Pull Out Victors Over Murray After Game Fight Against Odds. r WIN BATTLE BY HARD HITTING IN NINTH INNING Smelter Team Takes Lead Early and Maintains Advantage Advan-tage Until Final Session. Tho Occidentals Sunday afternoon rescued res-cued another game that appeared to bo hopelessly lost. Timely hitting won their frame from Murray in the ninth Inning, by the score of 3 to 2. All tho way the Occidentals had an uphill battle, being runless until the eighth inning. They got a run In the eighth and bunched their hits In the ninth and scored two more. Murray' hacj things all its own way for seven innings. Combinations of hits and errors helped tho .smelter team to gel two scores and the negroes did not appear to have a chance to win. I-Iummol pitched superb ball for seven innings and then weakened at the wroncr time. Two bases on balls and a singlo were productive pro-ductive of a run In tho eighth and I wo singes and a double, two more in the ninth Mooney pitched an excellent game for he negroes, allowing only four scattered hits. The Occidentals did not give their pitcher their usual excellent support on Sunday, although their nil.splays were largely offset by brilliant work. Robinson got two. error:; at second base and redeemed re-deemed himself by making a spectacular one-handed catch of a line drive. Black made a good catch In left Held and Langford Lang-ford a great throw to tho plate, cutting off a score. After Mann had flown out to Robinson. Marge Its sent a long fly to center which Burns muffed, Margetls reaching second. Scott wont out to Mooney to McAdoo and Castro reached first and Margetts third when Lane fumbled. fum-bled. Kaefer singled and Margetls scored. A. Gunn's grounder to Mooney retired the side. For the next two Innings the Murray men went out one. two, three. In Ibe fourth Castro opened with a "long three-bagger. three-bagger. Roofer went out. Mooney to McAdoo and A. Gunn sent a long fly to Langford. Castro tried to beat out the throw-in but was caught, on a beautiful throw of Langford to the plate. In the lifth, after Tegum had fouled out to Langlcy, Means got. to first on - Robinson Robin-son s error. Hummel sent a high fly over second baseman. Hawkins got under It and apparently purposely dropped the fly in order lo make an attempt at a double. Expecting Hawkins to catch the fly Hummel stopped runnln-r and returned re-turned to the bench and Means-Van back to first. The probabilities arc Abut Hawkins Haw-kins dropped the fly in order to attempt to double out Means at second. As It was he touched second, which would have forced Means out and as Hummel stopped running ho was also out. However. How-ever. Umpire McAndrews docldcd that Hawkins had held the ball long enough to put Hummel out and that, therefore, Means was not. out. Manager Black eon-tended eon-tended that a double play had been accomplished ac-complished and that both men were out. The game was then continued under protest. pro-test. McAdoo singled and Lane scored. Mooney and Black flew out to Castro, and Hawkins popped out to ICacfer. .In the ninth Langlcy was thrown out at first, then singled ami tied the score when Claude Burns doubled.
