It appears that the water which was being pumped through the pipo was a few degrees warmer than tho temperature tempera-ture of the shaft and this caused the pipe to expand. The 1700 feet of water column col-umn was securely fastened at both top and bottom and thero was nothing for the pipe to do but "buckle." This happened hap-pened only between tho 1600 and 1S00 levels and It will not be a difficult matter mat-ter to repair tho damage. Chief Engineer Mooro of the United States Mining company, under whoso direction di-rection the pumping plant at tho Centennial Cen-tennial Eureka mine was In6tnlled, came to this city upon being notified of the accident. The water column at the Centennial Cen-tennial Eureka mlne'cxtends from the 500 level to the 2200 level and the 1700 feet of ten-Inch pipe weighs nearly 100 tons. Eureka Reporter. |
