Show CENTRAL MONTANA AREAS IN SWEEP OF FLAMES GREAT FALLS, Mont.. Aug. 21. Forest For-est llros are reported today from various vari-ous directions surrounding Great Falls, and a strong wind all day made I horn worse. The most serious Is In the Bell mountains, near Xclhart. The lire started start-ed yesterday about two miles from the town and today got beyond control. A hurry-up call was sent to the forestry headquarters here for a hundred firefighters fire-fighters with equipment, and those will be rushed to the scene In the morning. Barker, another mining camp, Is directly di-rectly In the path of the flames, but several miles away from the lire nt present. Another lira is reported from tho north fork of tho Sun river in the main range of the Rockies. Thirty packers, with horsos, sent out by the forestry service to carry supplies for tho flro-flghtors flro-flghtors In the Flathead country, wore detained when they renched the scene of this fire and arc now carrying supplies sup-plies to the Sun river flre-flghtcrs. A tire Is reported In tho Mid-Canyon country between' here and Helena, and somo of the ranchers In that socllan have left tholr homes In fear of Its approach, ap-proach, A serious lire Is reported from the Highwootls to the east of Great Falls but tho region Is remote and without direct communication. Another lire Is reported at Logging creek In the Little Belt mountains to the south. At Fort Asslnnibolne a shower of ashes descended nnd covered the ground to the extent of about half an Inch. Asslnnibolne As-slnnibolne Is probably 200 miles from the nearest flro. The smoke here today has been so dense that It was not possible to see two blocks away. |
