Show TWENTY FIRE FIGHTERS HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES SPOKANE. Wash.. Aug. 21. A special from Wallace says' that twenty forest lire fighters near there have lost their lives. Though the chief danger to Wallace Wal-lace Itself Is over, the fires are still raging furiously In the hills on both sides of the city. Two persons have been killed in Wallace and all that section cast of Seventh street except the Federal mills and the Providence hospital has been burned. Among the "properties destroyed are the Wallace Times office, the Pacific, Michigan and Coour d'Aleno hotels, tho Sunset brewery, the Coeur d'AIene Hardware Hard-ware warehouse, both Oregon Railroad & Navigation company depots, several stores and fifteen residences. Forest fires are spreading rapidly In the Pend Oreille country and especially around Newport, Wash. Roports reaching here say that town Is itself in flames, but it is Impossible as yet to verify. |
