I remain here ns tho personal reprcscn- !j l't tativo of the architect during tho con- 4 i f struction of the building. ,j Occupying the sito of tho old Halls tt I (Jl hotel, which has been razed, tho new i 1 I ' ijl department storo building will have a J frontage of 205 foot on State street and , j jf 165 foot on Third South street. The first floor will cover tho cntiro lot, with a largo air and light shnft at the rear, which will bo covered with au art glass skylight of special design, measuring 40xG0 feet, the intention being to make tho storo ono of the bust-ventilated and best-lighted in the country. The plans call for a building of four 6toriqs. The height of tho ceilings will bo nineteen feet n tho ground lloor and fifteen foot on each of tho other floors, so the building will bo faller than the average office structure of six stories. The iirst lloor front will bo almost al-most entirely of plato glass, the design of the show windows embodying the most approved mothod.sjof snow-window construction. Entrances will bo provided provid-ed du the Third South nnd Stato si reel sides, but the main entrance to the building will be on the corner. This entrance will .lead to a marble vestibule of artistic and imposing design, nnd there will be a largo ornamental iron mid copper mnrquiso over the doorwnv. Tho exterior of the upper floors will be of white terra cotta, surmounted by a terra cotta cornice and balustrade. Bays -will be of ornamental iron cast from special designs. Access to tho upper fluors will bo gained by throe passenger elevators and an ornamental circular staircaso will surround the elevator shafts, with additional staircases at the west and south ends of tho building. Steel girders and columns will be used in the interior construction, with the columns encased in fireproof composition. compo-sition. Tho building also will bo equipped equip-ped wilh a complete automatic sprinkler system, the tank for which will be erected ou a tower at tho rear. Every convenience and improvement known "to I he modern department store trade is to be included in the Auerbach building, the package chutes and carriers car-riers and ventilating system being built in. Many special features for the com- fori of patrons and employees are also. provided for. On the second floor will be a rest room for women, wilh writing desks, couches nnd easy chairs included in the handsome furnishings, which will bo completed by a largo fireplace with inbuilt seats at oither side. In connection con-nection with- tho rest rooms a small hospital room will be maintained for emergency cases and a force of attendants atten-dants will be on hand at all times. Offices for the Auerbach force will be maintained on the third floor. Plumbing, Plumb-ing, lighting and hunting facilities will be of the most approved construction and the storo fixtures will be of the finest mahogany and plato glass throughout. 1 Two large freight elevators will be provided at the rear of the building, and all deliveries will be made from tho rear, through a right of way uwnod by the Auerbaclis. between tho Mis sion and Colonial theater buildings. Further improvements to be made bv the Auorbachs in I he .vicinity of State and Third South streets will make that locaticn nn important part of Salt Lake's business district.
