OF COURSE,' ARB TOURISTS Plans on Foot to Reconstruct Organ and Make It Largest in the World. At tho organ rocital in the tabernacle Saturday afternoon, the announcement was made that the series of recitals discontinued with Iho performance then in progress. It was staled that during dur-ing tho season tho estimated number attending (ho recitals had been more than 200,000. The greater portion of these, of course, were tourists. The attendance has been gradually decreasing decreas-ing since tho close of the tourist season, sea-son, although the last recital was attended at-tended by 1,000 persons. Organist J. .7. McClellan wns at the organ Saturday. His programme for the closing recital was a collection of grand music. Tl included the famous sextette froin ''Lucia,''' communion in G, "Hindoo Dance,' an old melody and the "Pilgrims.' Chorus,''' from " lannhauscr." Miss I5dit.li Cannon sang a beautiful soprano solo, "Ave Marie" ("Cavaleria Kustienun. ") During tho recitals, Organist Mc-Ckllau Mc-Ckllau has been assisted bv Tracy Y. Cannon and J5. "V. Kimball'. Both of these performers havo played with credit to Iheniselves and to their instructor. in-structor. A number of compositions by Professor McClellan ami tho other or-ganisrs or-ganisrs wero rendered in tho eourso of the season, and were well received. To Reconstruct Organ. Tt is said that Professor McClellan will soon ask the first presidency for an appropriation of .-ySu.OOO for the re-conslrucliou re-conslrucliou of the great organ. The instruineuf as it now is consists of five separate organs and contains about 5,000 pipes. Professor McClellan would double this number, making the total of 10,000 pipes. Professor McClellan also wishes to place the koyboard, in tho center of the gallery a I; the extreme eastern end of tho building. The reason for this is that (he performer now is so close' to the instrument that ho ennnot "hear himself play." The change, it is believed, be-lieved, would result in much benefit. Should the alterations and improvements improve-ments be made the tabernacle organ will be tho greatest in tho -world. |
