Show GOOD FOR SALT LAKE. There has never been any doubt in the minds of reasonable, candid men of tho immense benefit to Snlt Lako City of tho American administration of its affairs. The American party tools tho city when it was in decadenco and brought it forward until it. is tho livest, most spirited, and most progressive city in the Union. The victory of the American party two years ago at the municipal election, clinched tho victory of J 005, and reassured the pooplc of the country of the disonthrallmcnt of tho pcoplo hero from tho paralysis of reactionary re-actionary rule. Thereupon investors appeared ap-peared by tho hundreds and put their money into Salt Lako Tealty and Salt Lako business of various kinds. The result was an acceleration of growth and prosperity to the city so that Salt Lako weathered tho storm of .1007 in far bettor shape than almost any other city in the United States. Tho victory of last Tuesday gavo yot moro emphatic assuranco to the same purport, that this is a frco city which cannot bo held in priestly leading strings any longer. For tho first timo there was shown an absolute, majority for the American ticket over all opposing factions. fac-tions. This majority is certain to increase, in-crease, becauso the new population and tho new vote ranges itself with practical prac-tical unanimity on the American side. This is shown by tho result of the recent re-cent election. The opposition tickelf. received practically tho samo vote that LI103' received I wo yoars before. The American ticket increased some two thousand votes, being-practically all of Hie increase of vote cast over tho vote of two years ago. The now population which came in tho present year was not able to vole at the recent election. It will be ablo to vote at the election next year and that, as tho vote which preceded it, will be practically a unit for Americanism. So that tho outlook for the continued supremacy of the American party, its majority over all of the opposition, is exceedingly bright. .11 is this which has given such renewed confidence in tho city. It is this which caused so many investors in Salt Lake realty, who live in other cities of the country f.roin New L'ork to San Framysco, to telegraph their congratulations to Mayor May-or Bransford upon the tremendous victory vic-tory of the American party. Those investors in-vestors understand from the business standpoint that the triumph of the American party was the best possible thing for business, and for tho security and profit of their investments. It was that which actuated them in extending their congratulations. This fecliug is o general. sso pronounced, and such a reasonable outgrowth of the conditions here, that its verdict must be decisive. The American party triumph was good for business, and when that is said and admitted, as it must 'in all candor be admitted, it completely disposes of the stalo outcry of the opposition that Salt Lako City wouljl flourish better without the American party. Since, however, that is clearly not the business judgment, judg-ment, it is idle to repeat that cry any more. Tn direct lino with the business optimism opti-mism which justly accompanies the American triumph, is the response of he administration in the way of public improvements. Tho Board of Public Works on Friday night received bids on upwards of .$:J00,000.00 worth or public improvements, and will no doubt, award the contracts in due time upon full consideration con-sideration of the bids. There are plans proposed for the paving pav-ing of Main street south for three blocks, of West Temple street to Ninih South, and of Eleventh South eastward from Main to Thirteenth Fast. t There arc projcc'ls for tho addition to 'the city of Federal Heights, which .application will undoubtedly be prantcd without delay; also from "Waterloo and Sugar House wards. All these communities commu-nities utterly reject the opposition idea il... A iiri ni ii icm Jc Ivul for SnU. TjJikn. They all sec and are convinced, on tho eon.trary, that Americanism is the very best possible thing for Salt Lake; and while the city is under American control con-trol they want to be included within its jurisdiction. No finer tribute, to the benefits of Americanism could possibly bo brought forward than the application of Waterloo Water-loo and Sugar Jlouao wards to come within the city's boundaries. Heretofore, Hereto-fore, and under the church control, 'thoso wards were absolutely hostile to any idea of incorporation within the ci 1 3". However, seeing the American benefits, they now present their petitions peti-tions io come in. And the attitude of these wards must be confessed to be significant of the feeling of the olh'-r wards in this coun ty towards the American pnrty, and encouraging in tho highest dogrco to tho prospects of American success in the county election next year: becauso the pcoplo oC those wards fully, understand under-stand and believe that the American party will confer benefits upon the county commensurate with the benefits which It has conferred upon tho city. And in this belief they are evidently right and sound; on the trial of American Amer-ican county administration they are certain not lo be disappointed. II. is all glorious for Salt Lake, which stauds as tho type and cxaniplo of American progress, energy, alertness, push and business advancement. |
