Show OPPONENTS OF SMOOT ARE GETTING THEIRS Special to The Tribune. PROVO Sept. 29, In the Republican county convention, held here on Monday, it was verv apparent from the start that all men who opposed the Smoot machine were to be taught a lesson and before the convention was over all those who voted for Parlev P. Chrlstpnat-n In the stato convention were relegt-tcd to the deepest depths of oblivion, and the only way back Is to put on the Smoot collar and crawl. George A. Hone of Benjamin was a member mem-ber of the last Legislature and was also a delegate In the recent Republican state convention, and as such delegate he voted for Parley P. Chrlstensen as against Elder Joseph Howell. Hone was consequently marked for retirement, so when he came before tho county convention for nomination nomina-tion to succeed himself as a legislator he was handed a lemon with 23 marked on tho rind. Hono was wlso to just what defeated him, nnd so expressed himself to a representative of The Tribune. Charles T. Westfall of Pleasant Grove, also a member of the lower house of the last Legislature, who very much desired vindication by being nominated to succeed suc-ceed himself, was never given a chance to look In. His record was against hlrn, and he, too, was retired. |
