A boom' has been launched for Abel John Evans to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Uncle Jesse Knight for governor on tho Democratic ticket. Friends of Abel John say that no one In the state Is better qualified by experience and ability than the Lehl man. While he Is a lawyer of well-known ability, he also holds interests inter-ests in practically every Industz-y In this end of Utah county, including farming, sheep raising, mining. Irrigation projects, electric light plants, sugar making, elc. Mr. Evans has held every office In tlie municipality, been a county commissioner and a member of the territorial legislature. legisla-ture. He was a member of tho stato constitutional con-stitutional convention and has served In the stato senate, acting as Its president one session. Ho was a delegate to the Denver convention which nominated Bryan. In making the state ticket at Logan tho geography of the state was considered to a certain extent. Utah county has tho second lnrgest population of any county In tho state, and, being given Uncle Jesse, asked for nothing else. Now that he has resigned, political politi-cal wisdom points to the expediency of placing another Utah county man into the vacancy. A canvass for available men falls lo reveal re-veal any of greater ability than Abel John Evans, or any of more favorable or state-wide acquaintance. It will also be recalled that It wns Abel John who placed Uncle Jesse's name before the convention, conven-tion, and having placed tho "Wizard of Tintlc" under the necessity of refusing the honor his friends say that Abel John could not refuse the honor himself If tho state committee made tho request |
