Judge Nagel's statement state-ment was called forth by the statement made bv' .'Judge Henry S. "Priest of St. Louis.' a. .Democrat, wlvo was. referred to by President Roosevelt in a letter to Mr. Brvan "as a trust attorney supporting Mr. Brvan. Mr. Priest admitted that he Jiad been retained In a legal capacity by tihe oil company, and stated that Judge Nagel, Republican' committeeman from Missouri, was similarly retained. Judge Nagel in his statement says that . the-.employment of. his firm by the Wal-ers-PIerco company began some years a'go when they undertook an examination examina-tion of the Missouri laws with reference to the operations of the Waters-Plorco Companv under them.
