Show CANDIDATE IS BUSY. MAKING BRIEF SPEECHES ROCK ISLAND. III., Sept. 20. Having traveled all day through Iowa, William J. Bryan arrived here tonight and spoke to a big assemblage at the basoball park, lie made ten-minute, talks at Carroll. Boone, De Witt and Clinton during the day. jind said ho had good reports regarding re-garding the political situation In Iowa. The trusts, the tariff and publicity of campaign contributions were brleilv discussed, dis-cussed, and both Mr. Taft and Mr. Roosevelt were scored In connection with their views on those subjects. Mr. Bryan arrived here In an automobile from Davenport, Dav-enport, to which placo he was conveyed In a special Interurban car from Clinton, accompanied by a big escort. Awaiting here were Adlal E. Stevenson, Democratic Demo-cratic candidate for governor; John II. Atwood of thr executive committee; Frank S. Monnctt of Ohio, and a number of other prominent Democrats. The remarks of Mr- Bryan hero tonight were along the. lines of those mnde during dur-ing tho day. On the way from Sioux City to Davenport he wrote his reply to Roosevelt's letter of Sunday and gave it for publication. Mr. Bryan will remain here overnight. He will campaign in Iowa all day tomorrow. |
