Show I NOTES OF "U" In compliance with tho announcement made last week that the graduates at the univorslty must register for their thesis work before? February 20, most of the engineering students have presented their plans to the various department lie ads for approval. From reports It stiiih that a-number of the men have already -done the greater part of their work, much of It along lines of practical investigation. Some very Interesting results re-sults have already been obtained. Dr. F. J. Pack expects to get soino verv valuable valu-able information from the thesis of Levi Muin and Harrison Woodbury, who arc working on some features of the strati-7 graphical and historical geology of tho north end of the Oqulrrh mountains. The men have already spent about ten 'davs studying the country south of Garfield, and they have a large amount of material ma-terial at hand. Lacelle Cummlugs and D. S. Dlekert are making an exhaustive series of experiments, with incandescent lamps, under tho direction or Dr. Merrill. Mer-rill. y Among other things thev have demonstrated very conclusively that a m tungsten Aliments will operate on one-third one-third of the power required for the ordinary ordi-nary lamp, and give the- same amount of illumination. They find, however, that the lamps aic much more readily injured than are those in general use at present. A committee was appointed at the regular faculty meeting at the university univer-sity Monday afternoon to arrange a programme pro-gramme for Washington's birthday. Sentiment was divided whether to have the exercises at the-regular chapel hour Frkiry or on Monday. It was left In the ha mi of the committee to decide this, point as well as iti secure a speaker and arrange other details. The members of the Dramatic club who are cast in the production of "The Cabinet Minister," which Is to bo given at the Salt Lake theater Mondav and Tuesday of m-xt week, arc having strenuous stren-uous times rehearsing. Merrill posted a list Monday of more than 100 names of engineers who are to confer with him regarding their work. Tills list, is is believed, is the full number of those who were more or less deficient at the end of the first semester lmt who were not far enough behind to warrant their being dropped from the Institution. In-stitution. Lyle Smith, a former member of the Hums of 1909, registered at the university Monday In the arts-law course. Smith lias been in Germany for the past two years, but now expects to complete his course here. |
