Show OGDEN CITY COUNCIL HAS A BUSY SESSION Special to Tho Tribune OGDEX. Feb. 10. Matters relating to tho management of tho recontly acquired water works system, engaged tho better portion of the city council's time tonight. The special water works committee, under un-der whose direction the business of tho system Is being conducted, until a commission com-mission is crcatod by legislative enactment, enact-ment, submitted a number of reports and suggestions which wero adopted by the council. This commlltoo was given authority to purchase 1500 six-Inch watermalns to bo used for tho extension of tho system to Five Points, and othor sections of tho city. Tho committee reported that according ac-cording to tho city engineer's estlmato the cost of tho now reservoir would bo between $10,000 and $1S,000. The citv engineer was instructed to proceed with tho plans nt once and to begin Us erection erec-tion as soon as possible. Tho reservoir will havo a capacity of 20,000.000 gallons. A blank contract form was submitted by the committee for the employment of Attorney C. C. Richards to represent tbe city In tho litigation over tho water rights of Taylor s canyon now pending. The committee explained that Mr. Richards Rich-ards is familiar with tho case, he having been connected with It as attorney for the Ogden Wator Works company, from whom tho water rights were purchased. The street committee and city attorney recommended that tho Gamble & Robort-son Robort-son Commission company, which Is seeking seek-ing permission to lay a spur track on Wall avenue, bo requested to submit a franchise form and that If this permission permis-sion is granted It will only be In the nature or a franchise for a stated term of years. The city treasurer, complying with a motion mndc by Councilman Peery. submitted the first weekly report showing tho balance on hand now In the city treasury to bo S1S.97C.2S. On motion of Councilman Flygare, an adjournment was taken until next Tuesday night, Monday Mon-day being Washington's birthday. Tho pay roll for tho water works department from January 1C to February 1G, amounting amount-ing to $SU5.t)0, was allowed. The resignation of President John S. Lowls of the park commissioners was accepted. ac-cepted. Other routlno business completed the session. |
