Show OTAH WOOL 6R0WEBS afteb mmimi Utah Legislature Will Be Asked fo Present Memorial to Congress. A petition to tho stato legislature is being prepared by G. B. Stewart, secretary sec-retary of the Utah "Woolgrowers, requesting re-questing that a memorial bo sent to congress con-gress asking a number of things of importance im-portance to nil woolmen of this state. It is desired that the present tariff on wool shall bo maintained; that the railroads bo compelled to observe a minimum rata for tho transportation of stock; that a uniform law regarding tho pasturage of sheep In tho vicinity of settlements bo passed, and that the bill now ponding before be-fore congress bo defeated. This bill is similar to the Burkett bill, which was defeated de-feated last winter, and which deals with tho leasing of public lands to Individuals, thereby preventing the unrestrained pasturage pas-turage of tho sheed herds on those lands. It is felt that tho enactment of tho pending bill in congress or a chango in tho present tariff will Injuro tho wool interests of the state greatly. A good deal of troublo has' been caused In the past by the present interpretation of a Jaw, which forbids tho pasturogo of sheep within seven miles of tho Intake of a system sys-tem of waterworks, and, as the pipes often extend a long distance Into the hills, much excellent pasture is lost to sheepmen. |
