There aro now onl' eighteen miles of the railroad to be completed. Heretofore there has been no direct lino to Yuma from various California points, and the now road will greatlv improve tho transportation facilities of tho rich Imperial valley country. N. R. Martin, district passenger agent of tho Southern Pacific in California, is reported re-ported to have said that, on an average, sovonty-fivo persons are migrating into tho Imperial region dairy, which, of course, necessitates better transportation transporta-tion facilities than havo hitherto been bad. Tho land in the Imperial valley region is very rich, being composod largely of a fertile silt which has been washed down by the Colorado river. This is good for agricultural and horticultural purposes. |
