An appropriation appro-priation of $12,000,000 is proposed for I the construction of auxiliary ships such as transports, dispatch boats, cruisers and scouts that, may be ready ih time ot war, an amendment to the naval bill offered today by Senator Newlandd. At the present rate of increase of tho navy, Mr. Hale continued, next year $160,000,000 would be required and $200,000,000 the year after. The committee provision to create the rank of vice admiral in the intercut of Admiral Evans was eliminated on a point ot order made by Senator Ravner of Maryland. |
