Show LIVELY SCRAP III II 8VEH ill FABE Mix-Up Is Between Murray City and Utah Light and Rail- i ivay Co nip any. Tn pursuit of tho demand, for a fivo-cont fivo-cont fare, Mayor Brown and a committee commit-tee of othor citizens of Murray havo appealod to tho board of county com- ! missioncrs not to errant the Utah Light ' and Railway company an extension of I its franchiso to Sandy and Bingham Junction unlesB tho street railway company com-pany comes through with a fivo-cont faro for Murray City. As tho ninttor now stands, it is a toss-up which will win. Tho street railway company insists upon a ten-cont ten-cont faro, and tho commissioners are : not disposed to insist upon a reduction 1 of tho rate to fivo cents if tho street railway company doesn't want to como ' across, on tho grounds that the extcn- 1 sion of suburban linos will work a great benefit to tho county, and the county is not entitled to demand anything any-thing of tho street railway company in return for tho oxtonding of tho lines. Parley L. "Williams, counsel for tho Utah Light and Railway company, appeared ap-peared beforo the board and stated j positively that tho company will not I consent to lower tho Murray faro to fivo conls. Then several other propositions, proposi-tions, embodying a lowering of the faro in soven, eight or nino years, were made, but. the', too, were objected to. Tho committoo then proposed the granting grant-ing of an extension of the franchiso if the streot railway company will consent con-sent to a roduction of tho fare to Murray Mur-ray within ten years .ind this concession, conces-sion, it is believed, tho commissioners may obtain in return for tho granting of the franchiso if they aro disposed to insist upon it. The street railway company wants the extonsoin of tho franchise to Sandy and "Bingham Junction for a term of twenty-fivo years, "Work upon the Sandy extension will probably bo begun be-gun at once after tho granting of tho franchise, but the Bingham .Tuuetion extension ex-tension looks liko it was a considerable) distance off. |
