"Wo are making new strikes every few days, but by the time wo get into t ho now oro antl dnvelop it wc forgot that it is new. Tlioro always is Eomo-tliinp Eomo-tliinp moro roccnt to occupy our attcn-tion." attcn-tion." Thus spoke George K. Dern, general manager of tho Consolidated 1 Mercur Gold Mines company, on Thurs-j Thurs-j day, when asked Tor tho latest word from this noted old dividend payer. I "Wo arc paving the way lor splon-I splon-I did developments riirht nlo- - all over the property," continued Mr. Dern. . "We find that the early owners did not develop the upper levels ns thoroughly thor-oughly ns wc have determined on doing, do-ing, and the result is that wc are meot- 1 ing with new ores, and in absolutely virgin territory, continually. As au in- j stance, last vcar wc began working out 1 sonic old stopes 111 tho Brickyard prop' I ertv, finding much new irround that has been verv productive. Wo now are getting get-ting as much as 150 tons daily from this particular new territory. Tho new shaft in tho Golden Gate property is goinc into old ground, but it is showing splendid ores; there .is a lot of this now ore, and it is partially at least of very good grade. The main surpriso in this work lies in the fact that the oro is oxidized, while heretofore hereto-fore the general rule has been for it to be u baso ore. This allows a better I saving for us, and better profits. "Our new slimes plant is doing its work lo our complete satisfaction, and we ure treating about 800 tons of ore a day. During the month of June our output was in the neighborhood of $75,000. We have not shipped pur June product away yet, and the exact j figures are not now obtainable. But wc are working along steadily, nud we have no complaint to register.' '
