Show ADVANTAGEOUS FIGHTING. The Gentiles who feel that they must bow to tho hlerarch or make a pretense pre-tense of friendship with that tyrant In order to preserve commercial Interests here should study the experience of the Great Western Salt company, which has recently been recorded in the Tribune. Trib-une. Tho company Is an Ogden concern, organized to engage in the business of producing and refining salt and making chemicals which have salt for a basis. It has been fighting the Smith salt trust for two years. When It began, Its prospects were so, gloomy in the eyes of flnanclers.that Its bonds would only bring eighty cent3 on the dollar. Today To-day Its bonds are worth one hundred and five, and the company Is making money. It is supported by the patronage of large flock masters, who consume salt for their sheep, and by other Independent Inde-pendent and patriotic consumers. That organization, with only fifty thousand ddllars of capital, but with an Inexhaustible capital of courage and loyal spirit, has demonstrated the patriotic pa-triotic value of fighting Instead of yielding yield-ing to tho greed of 'the great monopolist of this country. And It lias demonstrated demon-strated one thing more, a,nd of even greater value In a practical sense, namely: the financial' advantage of fighting. It Is only needed that Gentiles shall stand together when any one of their number Is in commercial or personal conflict with the hlerarch and his schemes, and victory is assured. There are some Gentiles in Salt Lako who might well tako this lesson to themselves. They have no need to yield, as Is proved by the experience of the Great Western Salt company. They have no need to play tho sycophant. All that they need to do Is to Join with courago and good will toward each other to maintain their 'commercial supremacy su-premacy against Smith and his cohorts. |
