So much muddy water was coming through tho mains that Superintendent Illrtes shut off tho Thirteenth East reservoir, reser-voir, allowing tho water .to collect and settle In thcro, whlfo feeding ttto system from other sources. A head of moro than fourteen feet was thus gotten In the resorvolr, whllo tho water coming from Parley's was partially clarified. Tho water wa-ter from tho Thirteenth East reservoir will bo turned In again as soon as it has nufflclentlv settled. Relieves "Water Situation. Tho cloudburst will relievo tho water situation temporarily, but tho water department de-partment and tho City Englnoor's offlco aro working on plans to lticreaso tho supply, sup-ply, If possible, within tho next fow weeks. A party will go today to Emigration Emigra-tion canyon to look Into tho matter of tapping tho big sump thoro at a lower point, and Uiub release what It Is believed be-lieved will amount to l.EOO.WO gallons a day. This plan was recommended by Superintendent Illncs last spring, but was never acted upon. Tho aump Is now lapped cloven foot above Its bottom. To tap It at tho lowest point will requlro tho laying of about ISO feet of pipe.
