Barnes, tho Kays-vlllo Kays-vlllo bankor who was Indicted by tho Federal Fed-eral grand Jury ono day this week nt Ogdon. Barnes was Indicted on seven counts, and Is charged with withholding J1G5 of back pension money from Sarah B Lnyton, widow of Christopher Layton, a veteran of Company C, Iowa battalion of tho Mormon Legion, In the Mexican war. Layton, a polygnmlst, who at tho time of his death was said to havo been married mar-ried nlno times, was drawing a pension from tho Government. After his death tho wife with whom ho had been living nttempted to securo tho amount duo him each month, but her claim was found by tho Government to bo faulty and that of tho first wlfo was recognized. Barnes, who had been looking after Mrs. Layton's Interests, finally received a check for the $300 duo her as back pension, pen-sion, and lt Is claimed deducted 3153 of tho total amount as attorney's fees.
