Show TO FIGHT PAPER TRUST. Publishers' Paper Company Is Organized Or-ganized in Maine. AUGUSTA, Me., March 17. Articles were filed today with tho Secretary of Stato for- tho Incorporation of tho Publishers' Pub-lishers' Paper company with a capital stock of $6,000,000, and tho following directors: di-rectors: William A. Hall, Now York, president; James A. Burns of New York, treasurer; Frank B. Noycs. Victor F. Lawson of Chicago and Oaklclgh Thorn of New York. Tho purposes of the corporation arc varied, but as outlined In the papers aro mainly to acqulro the rights, nssols, franchises fran-chises and property of tho Eastern Timber company of Bar Mills. Me . formed from the reorganization of the White Mountain Paper company, capital $25,000,000. for which ln July, 1903, a receiver was appointed ap-pointed bv the United States courts. Later Its property and rights. Including tho foundation for ono of tho largest pilp mills ln tho world at Portsmouth. N. II., nnd mill and water privileges in Maine and New Hampshire, principally along the Connecticut river, were sold to tho Eastern East-ern Timber company. The North American Ameri-can Trust company, which loaned large sums on bonds, became trustee. It Is understood that many of the members mem-bers of tho American Newspaper association asso-ciation aro interested ln tho new company and that ultimately the corporation will furnish paper for tho leading newspapers of the united States. A special act passed by tho Malno Legislature Legis-lature today authorized the transfer of franchises of tho Enstcrn Timber company com-pany to tho Publishers' Paper company and gives tho new corporation rights to develop and extend Ita water power. It Is understood that tho company will tako ovor at onco 300,000 acres of wood land In New Hampshlro and Malno nnd upon the foundations already laid at Portsmouth, construct a paper mill with a capacity of 350 tons per day. The company's com-pany's water power along tho Saco river is estimated at 300.000 horso power. This will be developed for tho transmission of electrical power for the company's uso at Portsmouth. Tho charter of tho new company provides for flvo directors to serve until tho tlrst annunl meeting to be held the first Wednesday of May, 1905, at which fifteen directors are to bo elected. |
