Mabel Hess Hughes is suing Franklin David Hughc3, alleging cruelty and failure to support Hughes replies denying tho charge and claiming that It Is a case of his wlfo having too many rolatives. This is one of tho very few dlvorco cases that have been contested in Utah. Considerable amusement was caused at intervals during tho trial, which lasted all day. Ono ltom was furnished by the plaintiff, who testified that she could not get cherry pies when sho wanted them. She was trying to provo that sho did not get enough to eat. It seems that Hughes and his wife lived with his parents In Farmlngton. Sho asked for the pics, and Hughes's mother refused to glvo them to her, saying that they could not afford pics. Sho also had a grievance because her tasto In beverages ran to coffeo. At her husband's home tea was tho favorite drink. Sho also alleged that she did not havo enough clothes. Mrs. Hess, her mother, in cross-examination, admitted that her daughter had enough clothes; and was compelled by Attorney S J. Weber to ndmlt that tho only article of her apparel which was worn out when sho returned homo wero hor shoo laces. Another Item of amusement was furnished fur-nished by Attorney E B. Crltchlow A witness was testifying that ho had known Hughes for some time. Asked how he knew him, he replied that ho had been out with him. "What do you mean by that?" asked Mr. Crltchlow. "We brought In tho hay together and went down to tho blacksmith shop together, to-gether, and such like." was tho reply. "Oh, then ou do not uso the phraso 'going out with him' as we uso it In the city?" asked Mr. Crltchlow. Hughes brought ono law suit against, his wife's parents. He claimed damages from them for alienating his wife's affections. af-fections. This was tried before Judge Lewis and decided against Hughes.
