Show SHIPPING AWAY THE MONEY. i The buying of additional lands by tho hierarchy In 1 Canada is further evidence evi-dence of the intention to establish principalities prin-cipalities in foreign lands. That' these shall be used for tho aggrandizement of tho church royalty, and the security of all of the ellto class who flee there is self-proved; that these purchases shall seem to benefit for tho time being tho labor element of the church tho lower orders, as It were Is also quite certain. These Immense domains will bo placed In the order of magnificent estates, with every comfort and luxury which modern mod-ern civilization can supply. Tho men who work upon them and who live upon them with their families will be performing missions in some instances working to Villd up and.populate tho country of. freeholders, and In some Instances In-stances working as lessees of the great landlord. When that great lord ceases to be an absentee, when ho comes home to his own, he will find his vast estate beautifully beauti-fully Improved and peopled by a gentle, Industrious, awe-lnsplred tenantry. Tho hierarchy of the church realize "lhat they are thus bulldlnc for the grent events of their lives, when they shall choose to change their residence. But what about Utah the while! Millions Mil-lions of needed moncr are being shipped from here, never to return either eith-er In principal or interest. While we are begging the world's capital to our rescue, a few selfish men aro migrating our capital beyond our borders and Into lands alien to our Hag and institutions. The men who work in tho field, in tho mine, the men who till the soil, the professional pro-fessional men, the merchants, the bankers of Utah, all have a right to object ob-ject to this system pursued by tho Mormon Mor-mon hierarchy of sending the profits of Utah's toll abroad. The Mormons would have been in great need In their early day, but for money brought hero by Gentiles. The Gentiles have, In a large degree, produced the money which now circulates In this community; communi-ty; and now the Mormon hierarchy persistently per-sistently and injuriously ships it to other lands, where it will always remain, re-main, multiplying Itself there for tho aggrandizement of that distant part of the earthly king of tho kingdom of God, whose seat Is at Salt Lake City. How long can Utah bear this drain? How long will she bear it? But what about tho Canadian Government Gov-ernment and the Mexican Government? Will they supinely see an objectionable institution transferred from the United States to their own domain? Will they simply for the sako of gaining settlers permit men, who are practically fugitives fugi-tives from the United States, to establish estab-lish communities and principalities within their borders? It is impossible for us to answer, but there is in the inquiry in-quiry considerable food for thought on the part of tho men who contribute the money to the hierarchy, and on the part of tho hierarchy themselves for other countries are sometimes rather abrupt about their legal proceedings. Furthermore the United States seems to be Intending to pay due regard to the illght of these people Into Mexico and Canada. Strange to say, tho Government Gov-ernment of the United States does not view-this matter in other than a legal light. If smuggling were going on at the border line between this country and Canada, or between this country and Mexico, the sharp eyed officials of the United States would guard and protect pro-tect the interest of this country. If offenses of-fenses against its laws arc committed here an'd men and women wanted as witnesses seek to cross the line, they may be stopped. If offenses aro committed com-mitted in either of the other countries named and the offenders seek to cross tho line to take up residence in tho United States, it is possible that they may. be stopped. With the legal aspects of it, it may be difficult to'interest many of the people, peo-ple, of this community. So' many only tolerate the condition, that they tako about the same view ag the Hon. George Sutherland; that this thing will settle itself pretty soon. But with the commercial phase under which Utah is annually robbed of the profits of her toll, to enrich countries north and south of us under foreign flags, the citizens of Salt Lake City and tho Stato havo a profound Interest, and their remonstrances should be heard. It is a monstrosity of civilization that the church should be engaged In commerce com-merce at all. It Is more than a mere worldly monstrosity mon-strosity that a church pretending to act in the name of God should deprive one commonwealth of Its own produce, and needed sustenance of money, in order to profit a few men who violate tho laws and want to take refuge beyond be-yond the border lines of our country. |
