"With tho talons of an eaglo buried in his sldo nnd unablo to savo himself from tho claws of tho bird, Harry Vnndenburg, tho twolyc-ycar-old son of S. G. Vandcnburg, camo near losing his life today. Tho eaglo was captured In U10 San Luis valley threo weeks ago by Mr. Vnndenburg, aftor ono of tho wings had been Injured by- a bullet. bul-let. Ho brought It home and placed It In a largo cage. The eagle had almost recovered from its Injury and last night escaped and tried to fly. It flew some distance dis-tance and fell to the ground This morning when Harry found the eagle missing ho went In search of It, found tho bird, took It In his arms and started home. When he had almost reached tho house the eaglo sprang from tho boy's arms and burled the talons of both feet deep In his side. Tho boy began be-gan ecreamlng and calling for holp and Ills parents with neighbors went to his rescue. They worked for somo time before be-fore removing tho talons from tho boy's, body, Vandcnburg has givon the cngno to the flro department on tho promise that If it attacks anothor person it will bo killed. |
