After a mlnuto or two a second lady entered; sho seemed to be a friend of tho first lady, for they Bhook hands. Noticing tho label "Smoking," sho announced that sho could not stay. Lady No. 1 on this assured her that her husband would not smoko If It was disagreeable to her, and sho took a seat I said. "This Is a smoking carrlago and I mean to smoke, whatever that gentleman gen-tleman may do." On this tho two ladles glared at mo as though I had proposed to murder them, but tho husband smiled gratefully. No. 2 wlthdrow, and tho Iiug-band Iiug-band and I smoked during nearly the wholo Journey. Now. what would this lady have said If I had entered a carriage reserved for ladles, lit a cigarette, and suggested that tho ladles should withdraw If they did not llko smoking? On occasion occa-sion such aa these, I always feel that I owe It as a duty to my sex to stand up for their rights. London Truth. |
