Fifteen earthquakes earth-quakes ha- e been recorded on the seismograph seis-mograph at the Johns Hopkins university univer-sity since last April. This Is shown by the films used from April to October which have Just been developed. Not only has the instrument exceeded exceed-ed its record in number, but the longest long-est shock ever known on the seismograph seismo-graph was recorded during that time. On August 21 last there was recorded an earthquake that began at 4 p. m. and lasted three and one-half hours. Tho shock moved the roglstcr beam two-thirds of an inch. The longest quako previously felt was the one which caused great damago in Guatemala, Guate-mala, March 18, 1902. It continued three hours. |
