Show WIFE HELPED PAY ALIMONY. With Aid of Wife No. 2, Could Not IrTeet Court Order. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.. Oct., 22. Be-causo Be-causo wife No. 2 was compelled to take in washing to help pay the alimony due wife No. 1 Noah B. Smith appeared' in court to ask for a modification of the order providing for the money for his first wife. Mr. Smith married wife No. 2 as soon as he was divorced from wife No. 1. He was ordered to pay ?20 a month for the support of his two children when the divorce was granted last February. He told the court. that ho had great difficulty diffi-culty in paying the $20 a month alimony granted Mrs, Smith No. 1. Smith has been cited to show causo why he should no.t be fined for contempt of court for refusing to meet the payments pay-ments of ?20 a month. It was shown that out of $165 that had fallen due since the granting of tho divorce he had only paid $G5. He said that he had been ill and that the payments were too high. He said: "I have mortgaged my property prop-erty and I have pawned my watch and my wife has taken in as high as three washings a week to help me pay the money duo my first wife. I simply could not meet the payments." Judge Leathers agreed that under the circumstances $16 would be sufficient for the support of the children. |
