Tho head of an Irish house, who had been supposed to bo past marrying, returns re-turns homo to his Castle Barnard, with a French wife, young, lively, fas'clnatlng. His brother Is mean, revengeful, and puts tho dovll In his heart, by suggesting that the marriage with a Papist Is null In law, and tlio goaded husband hastens Into a lawful marriage. The French wife disappears disap-pears with her two boys, and so tho foundation foun-dation of the story Is laid. Tho actual story has to do with the grandchild of tho legal marriage, and a very lovely, gracious young lady she is. Her beauty, her fluo character, engaging manners, and sympathy sympa-thy with all, win her tho lovo of every one. Tho hero Is a creat home rulo agitator, agi-tator, with whom she Is in full sympathy, sympa-thy, and their love-making has to wait till tho battle for Ireland Is fought, llrst, with defeat, and then comes tho consummation consum-mation of tho happiness of the principal characters of tlio story. All through tho scenes they havo made others fary happy, hap-py, and havo been kindly helpful to all. There aro two lovcablo old gentlemen, too, (who turn out later to be the sons of tho French wife), who aro regular Brothers Chceryble, of tho most costly, magnificent sort The story is a delightful one, and pleasant to read. |
