Show We MEN AND THE SCHOOLS. Tho duty and responsibility of women in tho educational work of the community com-munity was closely brought home to tho members of the Ladles' Literary club on Friday by Professor Clark. He stood strongly for this Interest by the women everywhere, but in Utah, where the women vote, there is redoubled reason rea-son for them to take this interest, and1 have the voice in the management of the school that It is natural for them to have, and which would certainly be beneficial to tho schools. It was especially appropriate In another an-other way that attention should bo strongly called to the good Influence that women may exert on the public schools In that a regenerating forco Is badly needed In the public schools of Salt Lake. It has been openly stated by a prominent member of the Board of Education that tho schools hero are not now as good as they were some years ago. Probably no one on the board Is as compctont to express an opinion as to tho comparative merits thus brought In question as thl3 member. His statement state-ment was denied, it Is true, by some other members, whose knowledco of school work and whose rocord as members mem-bers is by no moans such as to convince con-vince tho public that havo either forco or weight, while the work of the board as a whole has been far from satisfactory. satisfac-tory. ' The two points brought forward coincide coin-cide to tho end that tho ono will remedy tho other. Tho Interest of the ladies in the school work should cure the lack in tho school board. There are ladles who stand hlzh In the educational world, who arc good hi administration, and of proved capacity. Why not strengthen the Board of Education next December by electlnc; some of these to be members of It? Women's public work Is emphatically along this line, and hero we have both tho supply and the need. |
