Show GRAND DUCHESS KILLS ANGRY BEAR Furious Beast Charged Upon Her Royal Highness, When Sho Fired Fatal Shot. ST. PETERSBURG, March 26. Spencer Eddy, First Secretary of the American Embassy at St. Petersburg, was again the guest today of Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Duch-ess Vladimir at a huntlnr party at Gatschina, near St. Petersburg, and was more successful than on the expedition expe-dition of several days ago, killing two bears. The Grand Duchess, who Is a famous shot, had a narrow escape. She killed one bear and then shot at another, wounding It. The enraged animal struck one of the beatera, ripping tho clothing from his back and tearing his shoulder. Then, rising to his full height, six feet, the bear rushed at tho Duchess. In Hpltc of her dangerous sltuutlon she retained her presence of mind, calmly shook off a fur coat whloh impeded im-peded her free movement, raised her gun and fired, putting a bulet directly between tho eyes of the animal. |
