Show CANCER fiERI LOCATED AT LAST Schuller Tells How He Found the BaciliusThe Savant Believes it to be the Lowest Form of Animal or r Plant Life Yet Revealed by the Microscope It was In a very simple way that I was led towaid the discovery of the I bacillus of cancer and sarcoma I started out with the sense that the most natural nutritive for the development develop-ment of the lookedfor organism was the encysted tumor Itself and that such organism If actually extant therein there-in would grow forth at the expense of the tissue of the encysted tumor externally exter-nally on the body of the diseased man would remain for some little time at I the same temperature separated from the light and entirely free from all foreign for-eign admixtures and pollutions I knew of previous researches In The I case of another malady during which with regular precautions those parrs of tissue newly separated from the living body had kept up life days land and in them only the microorganism which IL contains would grow I applKl the same operation on tumors taking tumors tu-mors which were preserved In tlghJy closed vessels still lifewarn absolutely abso-lutely germfree and hot steam slci I llzed cutting little pieces out of them by the aseptic method then placing them Into wellstoppered glass vessels To what extent the proof of this organism or-ganism may Influence the treatment of the deadly I tumors cannot stipulated as yet although in my observation in certain Instances the organism dies I away very easily Yet it ought to be considered that esnaclalv In cancers the tissue Is so pecullaily changoa that I oven 1C we should succeed In extirpating extirpat-ing the organism In some way the reformation re-formation or cancer tumor to a normal I J nor-mal tissue yeems hardly lyiaximllien Schuller M D the WorldFamous Bacteriologist I I I also hot steam sterilized In two different dif-ferent ways the descriptfon pf which Is I too extensive to detail here thus kept days long at animal temperature I On tumors I made my first experiment experi-ment November U 1S09 on a sarcoma I which was operated upon by myself I After eight days I found in the tightly closed bottle the size of a quarter the small tumor turned dark and alongside along-side of several drops of humor I considered the experiment a failure and poured alcohol on It in order to conserve con-serve the preparation Then a peculiar phenomenon occurred White nocks formed in the fluid which were conspicuous con-spicuous to me Those at once were microscopically examined Most peculiar pecu-liar bodies oval or round golden cap f sules with strong lighting material traversed tra-versed by fine pores mostly with golden gold-en 01 Jlgh 1 tbrown contents appeared These bodies largely were separated partly grouped In heaps so that if organisms or-ganisms they were they presented pure substances I glanced over my records of numerous previous operations on and preparations for fcrmental tumors and observed that nothing else than capsules cap-sules of equal shape and color and fractions thereof were known I found them not only In sarcoma but also often in cancer In all cases mst through peculiar though In themselves very plain methods of examination Yet the proper significance these relatively rela-tively Important capsules was not clear to me until further culture which I consequently applied newlyoperated I cases of sarcoma especially on various small cancers the majority of which I rather those In larger pieces conserved j In larger bottles resulted In considerable considera-ble success Without entering Into details of these cultures their nutrition preservation forthcoming < continuation etc I wish lo call attention to the most Important fact that the tenet of the abovede scribed body gets rather dark and granuloup It contains a large number of bigger and smaller dark round corpuscles cor-puscles with distinct doublebounded porous substance shaggy or beset with heaps of fine protuberances which enlarges en-larges 1 the pericarp This pericarp bursts and leaves these round corpuscles cor-puscles free On the process Ih6y lay partly single partly In heaps and manifest mani-fest various states of development divisions di-visions I or union of twothirds round equally created Individuals In cases of cancer they look brownish brown-ish In sarcomata light rather greenish green-ish yellow but In both cases shiny and seemingly of equal structure Examining Exam-ining them alive which I often did they are light and glossy which maybe may-be aqcrlbcd to their passing through interstices of matter This formation conceive to be the youngest of organisms or-ganisms or spores originating from the broad capsules and seems to be an important im-portant factor toward tho formation of tho tumor and outspreading of the disease as It exists In cancers and sarcomata scattered all over th tumor tu-mor even In the diseased glands as In rccldives sometimes In gsoat quantities quanti-ties In all sizes from the lire st to the smallest of corpuscles which can be pointed out with the strongest of microscopes mi-croscopes They also can be distinguished by their color and structure by appylng my method which IK very slmpl They are equally the youngest form of organism as Js manifested by this direct di-rect comparison Usually theie arc found about the tumor around It hprr > I and there small capsules as well as broad capsules etc These formations are real organisms und not alterations i of cells nor concrements of Falts nor things of that sort which as f proved I by many a trial and reaction is also conceivable by the direct observation of the state OC evolution which I repeatedly re-peatedly made Sven on the live tumor as well ason the live culture Whether this organism shall be I clas3ined to the lowest of animals or plant nature Is not yet positively determined de-termined even If I presume that they t I may belontr to the socaUM protoaoas I thy ought under no vlsa to be termed bacteria j |
