Have 5 Not Yet Decided Upon Policy Indications are However that t 5 They will Not Indorse Stevenson Even Should Towne With I draw His Name S p 5 j S I Kansas City July 7The Sliver Republican Re-publican party today by Its executive committee Issued the following address ad-dress S xx 5 To the Silver Eepublleant of the United States The Democrat national na-tional convention of 1900 has nominated I V J Bryan for President and Adfai i E Stevenson for VicePresident The Silver Republican national convention t of 1900 has nominated William J Bryan for President and referred the matter of a candidate for VicePresident to Its national committee with power to act Your committee has carefully considered consid-ered the whole matter It met In conference con-ference with representatives of the Democratic and Peoples partys national na-tional committee and vent over the ground fully Your committee found Itself face to face with these facts LEAVE REPUBLICAN PARTY In 1S9G thousands of voters who had S t heretofore voted the Republican ticket found themselves so widely at Aariance with their parlys platform that they I could not without selfstultification longer act with Republican party I In that year they found in the Democratic Demo-cratic candidate for President and in the platform upon which he stood a complete and sufficient Justification forgiving for-giving him their hearty support With I I him they went down to defeat tbut in i I that defeat won Victory tor manhood and patriotic independence for which they haAe no apology to offer and In which they feel a Just pride They retain re-tain and preserve the right lo Aote as their judgment dictates They bow to no party boss and have not abdicated their right to think S In IMC the Republican party made profound departure from the traditions tradi-tions and interests the American peeS pee-S pie and pf that tfarty by rejecting the free coinage pfcsllver along with gold and placlngjiisclC positionto adortt the gold standard This year It hasde clamed Itself unreservedly the gold standard This continues the controversy contro-versy of 189G ANOTHER REASON FOR QUITTING 5 But In addition to Its departure from the adAyocacy of blmetajism It has now still more profoundly departed depart-ed from the traditions and interests of tho American people by becoming the apologist for and the champion of trusts and monopolies and has Introduced Intro-duced such Imperialistic practices and theories into the administration of the affairs of gOAernment that for the first time In the history of that party Its national conventIon could not even refer re-fer to the Declaration of Independence and this although its convention of 1900 met In such a place and within such an environment that the great Declaration Avouiu IKLAO peculiarly appealed to the party had It still listened to the voice that In that earlier and better day pleaded for a Government of the people peo-ple for lie t people and by the people In the face of such profound departures from the traditions and interests of the American people we cannot return to the Republican party POSITION OF DEMOCRATS On the other hand we find the Democratic party has again placed itself It-self right en the money question right on the question of trusts and monopolies monopo-lies right as the champion of the Declaration Dec-laration of Independence and of constitutional con-stitutional government right in expressing ex-pressing Us sympathy for other nations na-tions who only ask that which you would that others should do unto you do even so unto them The Democratic candidate for President Presi-dent is ours our convention named him Upon the fundamental propositions proposi-tions above stated we are one with the Democratic and the Peoples party Our common candidate for President Is enlisted en-listed heart and soul In this great S cause We know he has the high courage S cour-age of his convictions His triumph Is necessary If we are to hand down to our children and our childrens children chil-dren a government founded in the wisdom S wis-dom of the fathers maintained by the blood and treasure of its citizens and perpetuated as a priceless heritage TO SUPPORT STEVENSON Impelled by these considerations your national committee has determined deter-mined that itt duty in this hour Is to indorse lion Adlai E Stevenson as our candidate for VicePresident In order that the opposition to the gold standard trusts and monopolies Imperialism and all its attendant evils may concentrate its Votes at the danger point and accomplish ac-complish the triumph of those principles prin-ciples so dear to us It Is but simple justice to say that In taking the ac ion Indicated AVO are following i tne au Alce oC our distinguished leader apparently IB against the Indorsement of Sir SteAen son on account of the peculiar condi tions existing in several of the Western States notably Kansas Nebraska and South Dakota where the Populist Aote is larger than the Democratic and Avhere the Populist lenders fear the straight indorsement of the Democratic ticket would Jeopardize the success the ticket oC S WILL HOWEVER FUSE I3ut the parties will work together In States where Populist strength is the greater theunderstanding Avill be that the electors on both tickets will favor Bryan and Towne This will apply especially to the
