l VICTIM OF A SJREN Geo Howard Said to Be a Sat Lakel Has New York Experience I TRIBUNE SPECIAL New York May 11 George Howard portly and wealthy said to be from Salt Lake City sought diversion In the i tenderloin district and found It simultaneously sim-ultaneously losing a large wad of money Howard came here on business busi-ness and after a stay of a few days began to look for amusement He visited the Fifth Avenue theater and after leaving the theater met a girl who quickly made his acquaintance Five minutes after the meeting they were sitting at a table In a music hal There Is considerable mystery about the manner KI which Howard lost his money but he declares the girl must have taken it from his pokotFor tunately he only lost 40 out of change in his pocket He entered complaint at the police station Friday night while Detectives Churchill and Haw bins were with him he saw Gertrude Maxwell and declared she was the tho thief She was arrested When the i party arrived at the fstalionhousa Upward said to the sergeant Now sir to avoid any scandal l or publica tion I will take the 40 which this young woman doubtless has and then you let her go1 The sergeant refused J and said Be at the Jefferson Market Police court In the morning and tell mornIng tel the Police magistrate Howard failed to put in an appearance In court to day The case went over to May 12th and an officer was sent to find Howard I found he will probably be punished for contempt oC court The police dont know Howards street address His card merely says Salt Lake
