| Show THE CHAMPION hunting lie of the year comes from Bellefont Pa in the shape of a telegram to the Globe Democrat Here it is Between Brush and Seven Mountains in the lower end of this county Clarence Stover a 17yearold boy had an encounter en-counter with a deer which he vanquished van-quished by means of two heavy stones and a rusty pocket knife The boy I saw the deer come out of a wood into I the load He crouched down in a fence corner with a stone in his hand and as the deer passed by he hurled the stone striking the startled animal in the side After pursuing it for some distance he overtook the injured deer and again hurled a stone striking it on the head The blow must have dazed it for it turned and rushed straight for its assailant At this juncture the boy grew desperate and just as the deer sped by him he threw himself at it and caught it by one of Its hind legs Both went down together to-gether and a fearful struggle ensued Deer and boy rolled over and over the marks of the combat were viewed by many people from the village later until he finally got his knee on Its neck and held It while he drew his rusty old penllnife and cut its throat After it was dead he carried it back home on his shoulder and is now the hero of the town And that boy is no doubt the offspring of Quaker parents par-ents and knows the Lords Prayer and the story of George Washington and his hatchet by heart |
