AS MEAN AS EVER In order to cover up its ignominious failure to give the public the news in the Hayken case the poor old shaky Tribune says that Mr Hayktn promptly reported his presence to the organ meaning The Herald which gave particulars of Haykens arrival while the Tribune declared his whereabouts where-abouts were not known in Denver nor in this city The Tribune to use its own expression wilfully and meanly lies in making that statement Mr I Hayken made no report to this paper nor to any person connected with it j He came in on the train at 3 p m was known to be at the hotel was not concealed by any means and the Tribunes Trib-unes reporter was scored without mercy for being scooped by The Herald Her-ald as to his arrival And yet after all that the disreputable prevaricator Qf that paper knowing these facts tries to crawl out of the hole into which his paper had put itself by I stating the miserable falsehood which I we have quoted If it is supposed that the public cannot see through such transparent deception the writer of it must think his readers are as foolish as he is false
