| Show THE BATTLE AT GUTIA PITTSBURG Nov 20The Dispatch tomorrow will publish a letter from its special Cuban correspondent who is on the field near Cumanogagua in which he gives detail of a battle at Guita near Cienfuegos He says the insurgents numbering 450 well equipped equip-ped were defeated by 150 Spanish soldiers sol-diers through the negligence of the insurgents in-surgents commander Colonel Jose Gonzales who failed to mount any guards for the protection of his camp When the Spanish forces who > had made a forced march during the night surprised the camp in the early morning morn-ing by firing from art adjoining hill the insurgent officers and men fled save only fortytwo infantrymen whom Captain Juan Jose Campillo hastily organized and who kept the Spaniards In check for an hour thus saving the disorganized retreat of the rest of their force from being turned into a slaughter slaugh-ter The retreat was later made in good order Only 250 of the insurgents had come into camp by the next day but i is not believed the missing were killed as most of the fighting was between the fortytwo insurgents and Spaniards Span-iards both sides well covered The Cuban Cu-ban forces here swear vengeance OK Colonel Gonzales and he will probably be shot e Yff |
