Show 4i AT MONTPELIER I Eighteen Inches of Snow on the ow I Level Montpelier Ida April ihe A people In this section of country are getting very tired of winter and to all appearances we are as far from spring as we were twomonths ago Yesterday and the day J before it snowed and blowed unceas I ingly and we have now on a uncea IS I inches of snow and in many places in town it is led up over thefences At best i will be three weeks before the farmers can hope to get on the ground to work In many places between here and Star valley the snow is reported three and four feet deep so that it will be six weeks before wheeled vehicles can bo used on that road Yesterday our city election was held and it was snottinET and blowing at a I heavy rate when the polls were opened and became more and more intense all day till the time for closing came round I I which made i impossible for many of f T to r f Tft omit It was the first opportunity the ladies hi i u ui uniuie tmg their appreciation appre-ciation of their elective franchise and the effort made by them yesterday to get to the polls dispelled all chance for argument on the part of the men that they did not want or do not deserve to have it because they certainly dig played integrity and interest to a greater extent than has over been demonstrated by the men voters here on any occasion and one very notceable and creditable feature connected with the affair was that there were no drunken men on the street no lobbying or dickering on the corners everything went off quietly and a count was had at an earlier hour than usual There was but one regular ticket in the field but on account of the hasty manner in which It was gotten up there were other names voted for at the polls which resulted in a change The ticket elected Is as follows J S Barrett mayor Charles E Harris Clerk J R Brennan treasurer James G Crane William T Perkins M F Whitman Whit-man and Thomas Leonard councilmen Wm G Shupe surveyor the latter however how-ever was a mistake in that the gentleman thought he was nominated for blacksmith which is his trade so consented con-sented to his name being used but it is believed he will master the situation at iny rate |
