| Show AFTER THE POLICE SQUIRE TUIWTBULL OF BINGHAM MAKES AN AWFUL THREAT Will Have the Department as a Whole and Desk Sergeant Living stonc in Particular Yaiilccd Up For Contempt of His August Court Justice of the Peace Turnbull of Bingham threatens to have the Salt Lake police department yanked up for contempt of his court Desk Sergeant Livingstone was last night in receipt of a letter from Squire Turnbull commanding com-manding in no uncertain terms that i a certain order of his honor was not obeyed he would cite him to appear at Bingham and show cause why he should not be punished for contempt in refusing to obey that tribunals decree de-cree The circumstances are about as follows fol-lows Some weeks ago a telephone message came to police headquarters from Bingham asking for the arrest of a man who gave the fictitious name of George Smith who was alleged to have left his boarding house without making a settlement Captain Donovan Dono-van took Smith in custody at the St Elmo hotel and brought him up to the station where he deposited 540 sufficient suf-ficient to cover the amount owing at Bingham Half of the amount was put up by Smith himself while the other 520 was plunked up by George Mullet an acquaintance The money was of course In the shape of bal to guarantee Smiths appearance before the justice at Bingham When the trial came off before Justice Jus-tice Turnbull the boarding house keeper keep-er obtained judgment against Smith for the amount and at once Issued an attachment on the bal money deposited depos-ited here at police headquarters The 20 deposited by Smith was at once forwarded according to the courts order but the balance the officials refuse re-fuse to turn over without an order from Mr Mullet The police commissioners attention was called to the matter last evening and Chairman Varian advised that County Attorney Whlttemore write the Bingham justice and give him a few pointers regarding the law governing such a case I |
