Show r WHO WILL BOLT A little while ago there was much talk among the goldbugs of the Democratic Demo-cratic party about the sin of bolting a national convention by any portion of the party That was when the gold bugs felt sure they would control the Chicago convention Then they stood upon a very high moral plane But things have changed since then and with them the opinions of the gold bugs on the sin of ftolting A New York dispatch to the St Louis GlobeDemocrat a usually well iriformed paper says in the event that the silver Democrats are in control at Chicago the Cleveland or sound money mon-ey men will bolt organize another convention and nominate a ticket It is doubtful if the above plan has been seriously contemplated for it would be a confession that the gold bugs are already beaten and that confession con-fession they will not make at this stage of the proceedings If they really desire de-sire to bolt they will find that no one is holding them Instead of bolting it is more probable proba-ble that they will accept the inevitable and sulk in their tents thereby passively passive-ly doing Vhat they can to defeat a silver sil-ver candidate V Should they do so still it is probable that there is more than enough independent silver sentiment senti-ment in the country that would support a Democratic free coinage candidate to compensate for the loss of the gold bug vote Should this vote decide to support a goldbug candidate such as is almost certain to be nominated at St Louis instead of sulking in its tent just what the result would be no one can say definitely The question mow is will the gold bug Democrats bolt the Chicago nomination nomi-nation if the nominee is an outandout free sIlver man |
