Show S LIVE STOCK EXCIIAXGE Review of the Weeks Trading at Kansas City Under date of April 17 Clay Robinson Co write from Kansas City The receipts of cattle for the week ending end-ing April 17th are 26023 against 23758 for the proceeding week The market onMonday opened steady but later on in the day declined 10 cents per cwt Tuesdays Tues-days market started in weak with fair receipts and sales were made at a shade lower prices than Mondays close Wednesday Wed-nesday the receipts were about 4000 head and with light receipts in Chicago there was a little more life to the trade and values were well maintained with sllghtly better figures Yesterday the supply was not excessive being 3200 catle The early market was quite active with reports of stronger prices from Chicago later on in the day the buoyancy was lost and the market closed dull Today with 4500 cattle cat-tle here there is practically no change from yesterday Nice fat heifers and cows are still in good demand at last weeks prices Good to choice native feeders are very scarce and high Yearlings are also very scarce Texas cattle are bringing about the prices obtained last week We quote top sales for dressed beef and export steers for the firstfour days this week Monday 39 head average 1380 pounds sold for 1385 Tuesday 20 head weighing 1731 brought 405 Wednesday 14 head weighing 1838 pounds sold for I 7 I i j I 415 and Thursday 16 head average 1538 pounds brought4 Receipts of hogs for the week are 62848 against 48730 for the previous week There has been a gradual decline in prices during the week and yesterday best heavies sold about as low as they have sold in years at 320 to 330 Today there is more snap in the trade and everything every-thing sold early at 5 to 10 cents advance over yesterdays close with best lights at 360 and bulk J335 to 3 50 which is 10 to 15 cents lower than last weeks close Sheep receipts continue quite liberal and the market has declined 10 to 25 cents this week especially on lambs and medium grades while best muttons are barely steady We do not look for much improvements in the trade until there is a marked decrease in receipts at all markets Chicago reports the sheep market mar-ket paralyzed |
