Deserted By Mrs Davis Who Followed Her Child I The Logical Result of His Own Misconduct Mis-conduct The Act Vas Carefully Planned and the Suicide Left a Note Giving Instructions Davis Had Been Twice Married The sequel to the sensational elopement elope-ment story reported in full in yesterdays yester-days Herald came when L C Jackson Jack-son the runaway wifes paramour was found dead yesterday at his place of business 310 State street with a bullet bul-let hole through his brain and another through the heart This tragical ending was a logical result to the turn affairs took when the womans husband arrived on the scene and succeeded in getting his wife to desert her consort and return with him back to his Nebraska home I transpires that when Davis departed de-parted for home with his child Sunday Sun-day night the erring wife was unwil ling to let her child go so far away and rather than lose the little one decided de-cided to cast off the man whom she deserted her husband for The train left at 740 oclock Shortly before that time the principals in the affar held a consultation in front of the Templeton hotel that lasted for nearly two hours The result was that Mr Davis returned return-ed to the hotel with his child while Mrs Davis and Mr Jackson returned to their abode on State street What transpired between the two is now locked up in Mrs Davis breast I Is enough to know that a few moments mo-ments later the woman packed her things and when her husband arrived ar-rived in a carriage she accompanied him and the eastbound train a few minutes later carried the reunited couple on toward their home wrecked but a few weeks before THE LAST SCENE I Nothing out the appearance of the room and a note pinned to his coat remains to tell the story of the scene enacted by the man who deserted a young wife and child for a woman whoso who-so soon would desert him I Is supposed sup-posed that nis thoughts reverted to that home in Nebraska where wife and child were learning to forget the name of father He knew that the days developments would be published publshe in the newspapers and that even if he attempted to start anew in life his prospects were ruined by the notoriety that would follow Sundays happening happen-ing The woman for whom he had sacrificed a comfortable home had turned her back upon him In the hour of trial and life he reasoned in lfe reaned repentant ing re-pentant madness was not worth liv THE SHOTS WERE HEARD I was about 830 oclock when two pistol shots were heard by several of the roomers upstairs and by the janitor and his wife who reside in the rear of the RIcketts building The shots could hardly be distinguished as reports re-ports from a gun and the tenants not being aware of the days history suspected sus-pected nothing wrong That is why the body was not found until 10 oclock yesterday morning THE BODY DISCOVERED About that hour two gentlemen came i to see Mr Jackson They were from Nebraska and having read the morn = ing papers decided that they were acquainted ac-quainted with him The front entrance was closed The fruit which was usually placed outside for display every morning was undisturbed There were no signs of anyone on the inside Going around to the rear they met Mr Ernest Avila the janitor of the building He went over to the rear door and rapped There was no response re-sponse He rapped again but every thing was silent on the Inside Just then Mrs Avila walked over to the window and as the blind was only partly drawn obtained a survey of the inside She at once discovered a man lying on the bed and called her husband hus-band I took him but a second to see that the face bore a hue of deathly pallor and he at once decided the man was dead The police were promptly notified and Detective Sheets went down When the officers entered the backroom back-room they found Jackson lying on the bed with a plbtol clasped in one hand On the floor beneath was a large pool of clotted blood while the pillow was bespattered with brains CAREFULLY PLANNED The horrible act had been carefully planned All his books and personal effects were stowed away in a box which he had placed at the foot of the bed On top of this box was piled his clothing Then he carefully rolled up the bed clothes leaving nothing but the bare mattress and a pillow as a resting place for his body when i the bullets should have done their I deadly work I I He had removed his coat and vest and placed them among his oth I er effects at the foot of the bed His last message to the world was a instruction to the people here a to what disposition was to be made of the body and property I was writ ten in pencil on a large paper bag and pinned to his coat where it could easily be found THE LAST MESSAGE I read as follows Please ship my body with the box of a few belongings to Friend Neb for my last resting place Ship to A McPharlane clerk of Woodman camp No 439 in which I am carrying 3000 life insurance in favor of Mrs Lucy E Jackson of that place Please no tify her by wire also A McPharlain My name in full is LOUIS C JACKSON of Friend Neb Saline Co Make expenses a light a possible Please dispose of goods and fixtures to pay expenses of funeral i you can Furniture is only part paid for and a little owing on fruit iL C JACKSON A closer survey of the room revealed a sal cook stove and a few utensils uten-sils The room in which the bed stood i utilized a a kitchen while a small room in front is divided off from the store by lace curtains while a wooden wood-en partition divides this from the kitchen kitch-en or sleeping apartment The door leading from this room to the store in front was closed so that it was impossible impos-sible to 5 the bed from the sidewalk THE CORONER INVESTIGATES When the situation had been looked over Coroner Offenbach w sent for l 1 I and the remains removed to the Evans undertaking establishment on State street telegram was at once I sent to Friend Neb and the reply came to have the remains shipped there at once An inquest will be held sometime today to-day the exact hour of which has not been fixedMRS MRS DAVIS PAST The coroner found among the effects a number of papers indicating that the deceased a a man of considerable consider-able experience in business affairs In a tin box was found a paper showing that Mrs Davis the woman with I whom he eloped had secured a divorce some years ago from Grazelle Stringer String-er Thus It would seem that Mr Davis is her second husband au least The only money found in the possessions was about 5 in silver in the dead mans pocket VISITORS TO THE STORE The little fruit store where the tragedy was enacted was the object of visits from a large number of morbid mor-bid curiosity seekers a large percentage percent-age being women They stood in front of the place and looked in through the window as Intently as if the affair was being enacted before their eyes when as a matter of fact they could see nothing but a few oranges displayed dis-played In the window a few soda water wa-ter bottles and a bare partition that obscured all possibility of a view of the room where the suicide was com mitted At the morgue the curiosity viewers were almost as numerous and hundreds hun-dreds viewed the body during the day many of these being women who appeared ap-peared to have no further object than to look at the remains badly discolored dis-colored from the manner of death Mr and Mrs Davis are now on their way east and will probably not hear Denver of this finale papers until they read i in the II SHE THREATENED SUICIDE I was learned last night from a party who had a talk with the people after Jackson and Mrs Davis had held their conference that the man told her he would kill himself if she left him The woman it is said declined to give any promise to remain but said that if Jackson carried out his threat and killed suicide himself she too would commit |
